Understanding Search Engine Ranking

The subject of search engine ranking is something many internet marketers are concerned about but lack the professional background of a SEO service to deliver the tangible results needed to procure an effective ranking. That is why hiring a SEO company to take over such responsibilities is so significantly vital.

For those not familiar with the term search engine ranking, it refers to the numerical placement of a website under certain specific search terms. Obviously, most people would love to be number one in the search engine rankings or, at the very least, in the top ten. In general, being ranked in the top 30 is what any website would wish to procure. Once you fall out of the top 30 – provided you were in it to begin with – you will discover your traffic stats decline significantly. That is certainly not an enviable situation for anyone looking to succeed in the world of internet marketing.

Why is such a high search engine ranking so important? Basically, people will select the links to the first items them come across in a search engine query. If a website is, essentially, buried at the bottom of the rankings then it is not going to draw in a lot of traffic. That is just a simple fact about how this process works. That is why it is critical that any serious minded internet marketer look towards an effective SEO strategy to raise search engine ranking figures.

Proper search engine ranking development will include selecting the right keywords, a targeted link building strategy, site index development, meta tag selections, and a host of other important components that will lead to the right results. Sticking with a reliable service will raise the odds this happens.

That is why it is necessary for any serious internet marketing professional to look towards a solid SEO service known for its ability to boost search engine ranking stats. Such a service will deliver a tremendous help to any venture you enter into.

The process for raising search engine ranking can be involved. That is why the need for professionals is so important. You cannot haphazardly enter into an SEO venture and hope for the best that your search engine ranking magically increases. The process does not work that way. However, with an approach that incorporates all the right elements, the ability to succeed may prove to be a foregone conclusion.

SEO - Cutting through the clutter to get you results

If you had to guess, how many websites would you say are in the world? One million? Ten million? Internet experts differ wildly in their estimates; guesses range from between one hundred million to more than three hundred million active websites today. So with all this competition, how are you going to get your website noticed? The answer is clear: Search Engine Optimization.

What is Search Engine Optimization? Basically, it is industry speak for anything that makes your site more attractive to search engines. Websites like Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and others send out programs called “crawlers.” These “crawlers” search for new websites and content. When they find anything new, they add it to their database and make it possible for people to find it using them. This is called indexing. But you have to do it correctly, or Google will skip right past you.

For example, let’s say you own a small shoe company called Seattle Treks. You just put up a website. How can you make sure people find you on Google?

1.) Be sure the purpose of your site is clear. In the code of your site, there is a place for “meta” information. This is the information that Google and other search engines look for first. There are two types of meta information: Meta descriptions and meta tags (more on meta tags in step 2). The meta description is what people read below your name in Google. Describe the purpose of your site and your company in a short, succinct phrase. “Seattle Treks - Buy fine custom footwear made in Seattle, Washington” will attract Google and tell people what to expect from your site.

2.) Fill in the meta tags. These are words that are associated with what you are. They go in the code on the main index page of your site. These words give Google clues as to what your site is about. If people type these clue words into Google, your site will pop up. So for your imaginary shoe company, you would put words like “shoes, usa made shoes, leather shoes, hiking books, A-TRAK shoes, treks, treks seattle, shoes seattle, outdoor shoes,” etc. Try to picture the words people might type into Google. This SEO work will ensure that when people are looking for shoes made in USA, or maybe for hiking boots, your website will pop up. Every site, no matter what it is for, needs to have solid meta tag information.

3.) Put dynamic content on your site. This means anything that changes. The Internet is like a pile of sand that you have to keep climbing and climbing. The moment you stop going up, you start sliding down. So add content to your site constantly. The more new content you have, the more often Google’s crawlers come by. The more often they come, the more often you get indexed. The more you get indexed, the higher you show in the search results. This is why big companies pay lots of money for SEO experts to keep them on top. How can you have dynamic content? Easy. Start a blog. Blogs are a painless way to add new content. Talk about your new shoe models. Take pictures of your community activities and write about them. Add to your blog at least once a month. Be sure that when Google comes around again, it finds a lot of new things to index.

4.) In the writing of your site, be keyword rich. What does that mean? It’s SEO speak for having a lot of the words that Google looks for. For example, images are an often overlooked keyword opportunity. Don’t call a picture of your new shoe “img3.jpg.” Try “new_shoe_model_XTRAC4_seattle_treks_shoe.jpg.” If someone searches any of those words on Google, chances are good they will stumble across your picture and come to your site. When you write on the site, use lots of keywords. “Our shoes are made right here in Seattle, using the finest nubuck and space-age materials,” will help Google. Keep that in mind when you write on your blog, and be sure to put “tags” on your entries.

5.) Set up company pages with Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. Backlink them to your site and add as many friends as you can. Google loves sites that link to other sites.

6.) Make a site map. This is an .xml file that goes in the root directory of your site and tells Google what all the pages are for. If you don’t understand .xml, it’s probably something you should have an expert do.

7.) Use a Search Engine Optimization service. These people are experts who know how to make search engines find you. They can also help you to create a site map.For more Information Visit my Seo Company

Search Engine Optimization Google

When looking into building a website, the number 1 concept in which you will need to have a grasp on to run a successful web business is search engine optimization. Many internet companies need to rely on the internet to expand and grow over one small local area to throughout the state, providence, nation, or even the world. There are many different concepts found in search engine optimization which help to increase your websites overall traffic, visits, customers, and search engine rankings.

So how does Search Engine Optimization work? What is it?

Search engine optimization is a concept which covers a wide variety of different tools in which a web developer would use to boost overall traffic and popularity to their own website. Some of the general concepts which are categorized into the Search Engine Optimization market are keyword densities, topic relevance, meta tags, script coding, domain names, back linking, search engine submissions, advertising, and much more.

Here are some things to consider when optimizing your website for the internet search engines;

Keyword Density – Keyword density is using a specific percentage of words which hold a significant relation to the overall main topic of your website. For example a key word for a website specifically about optimization would be “search engine optimization.” This allows web crawlers also known as search engine spiders to crawl your website and identify the main search-able topic of the site by keyword densities used most commonly in all of your website content. But with keyword densities if the keyword is used too much you may be black listed as spam. But if you use the keyword to little you may be listed in an unrelated area of the search where your visitors will not have a common interest with your website.

Topic Relevance – The relevance of your topics to your website, which also goes for the keywords will create a higher ranking in the search engine along with site search ability. For example if a website had many topics which were about ducks, but the site was about frogs, than you are going to be listed possibly in an unrelated part of the search engine. While a website about ducks, with many different articles and content with ducks in it, will have many different search engine listed pages which the searcher can see when looking up ducks. This makes it more likely that the person looking for information will visit your site.

Meta Tags and Scripting – These two concepts are in too much relation to each other to explain separately. Meta tags are specific words submitted into the sites overall header through professional scripting which pose as the main keywords which you want to be creating densities for in your content.
There are many different script alterations which can also be used which automatically detect meta tags and put them into the script for you based on densities, but is not as advisable unless you are very sure of what you are doing.

Domain Names – Your domain name is the key, the start of everything. Unfortunately the success of your entire website could be faltered simply by selecting an non ideal domain name. First domain names should be topic relevant, meaning that the domain name should be an overall description of what is in the website, or a business name. For example a news website should have a domain name with short clear general words in relation to news, and not a domain name which describes something like dating. Otherwise your visitors could be people looking for a dating website, and then leaving. Domain names should also be kept either dot com or dot net. These two domains rank in the top numbers for the Google search engine.

Why do I need Google?

Google is one of the most complicated search engines to stay on top of, and yet one of the most popular search engines on the internet. This makes Google one of the most important concepts in search engine optimization being more than 50% of the entire worlds population uses Google when searching the internet.

Should I do Search Engine Optimization on my own or through a paid service?

Although search engine optimization is complicated if you are a very experienced web developer it would save you a few bucks. The only problem is doing optimization yourself is time consuming, back-linking to thousands of websites legitimately, editing your scripts and fixing errors, this could all cost you a lot of time as to where your website could have already been receiving traffic and making income.

A paid service which offers search engine optimizations are often companies with many different people who work all at one time to get many angles of your website mastered all at once. A professional company can do for you in just a few days to a week what could take you several months. If your website is sponsored by advertising or your own products using a professional service to optimize your website would pay off its own costs in profits from the time you would not have had your website up and running without the service. So really the decision is up to you and your own specific preference. For more information vist my seo company

No One's Coming to My Blog - The Whys and Wherefores of SEO

2/6/2010

As the proud owner of a blog, you revel in your freedom to tackle sensitive issues, campaign against nefarious causes, dispense conspiracy theories, dish up juicy gossip . . . or do just about anything you want. It's your world. But if no one's coming to your site, what's the point? Incredible content keeps people crowding into your blog, but SEO is what will get them there in the first place.

The bad news is that there are literally millions of blogs out there, all fighting for the same eyeballs you want to reach. The good news is that most of them aren't optimized for search engines properly. This means that if you take simple steps to optimize your site for search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, you will have a much better chance of getting traffic than most. Here are some quick tips to follow:

1.) If you're using a blogging framework like Wordpress, Joomla!, or Drupal, don't forget to put a meta description of the site in the main index page of the website. If you skip this step, when people come across you on Google, all they will see is a line of meaningless keywords skimmed from the last article that Google saw. It will say the name of the site and "Tagged with . . ." That looks ridiculous. In most content-management systems, the code for the main site is in a folder called "Themes" or "Templates." Find that, open index.php, and add the following code to the head section: meta name=“description” content=”what my website is about here." This step is one that few bloggers take to heart, and your blog will be optimized for search engines way more than theirs almost by default.

2.) Do put meta tags on your articles. It might seem a bit ugly, but nothing is better for pushing you higher in search engine rankings.

3.) Give your images meaningful names that are keyword rich. For example, instead of calling that funny mugshot of the President “obama1,” call it “obama_and_precious_teleprompter_TOTUS”.jpg or something equally inflammatory. Then change the file permissions on your uploads folder to 777 so that people can follow your pictures from places like Google Images and make the jump to your site. If not, they'll get the "Access Denied" message, and no one wants that slap in the face.

4.) Give vivid names to all your articles. This pushes your article above the clutter of the Internet.

5.) Have your pages export to static HTML pages with long URLS. That way people will see “yourblogname.com/a_funny_article_name_here” instead of “yourblogname”/a=?45655.php.” In Wordpress and most other content management system, you can download and install a free plugin to make this possible. Static HTML pages are important for another reason: If someday you make it to the front of Digg, your website – and more importantly, your MySQL database – won’t be under so much stress. That will guarantee you stay up and enjoy the traffic, not crash because of it.

6.) Add a sitemap to your site. These are .xml files that help Google know what all the pages on your site are for. These are also free plugins for most major blogs. A good one will update automatically and ping the major search engines every time you change something. The more often Google knows you have fresh content, the more often they will index you.

7.) Don’t forget to be a good citizen and visit other blogs. Leave comments on their sites with links to yours. Comment on your site about theirs and provide a link to it. Most blog owners constantly check where their traffic is coming in, and they love incoming links. They are very apt to scratch your back if you scratch theirs.

8.) Use an SEO services company. Have them check out your site and see if you are doing everything you can to earn free traffic from search engines. You may be amazed to see how fast they can push you up!For more information please visit my Seo Company Services  or search engine optimization store
